Where To Call If You See Eid Crescent Moon Revealed

Eid al Fitr is just around the corner.

And, in anticipation, Muslims in the UAE have been told what number to contact if the crescent Moon is sighted.

The country’s Moon-sighting committee has invited all Muslims here to sight the crescent of the month of Shawwal on Thursday, from 2.44pm.

And the committee requested that, anyone who sees the crescent, should contact them on 02692 1166 to be directed to the nearest court to record the testimony.

The official Eid al Fitr dates, as per the Hijri Calendar, are Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3.

This means that, with the sighting of the Shawwal crescent and the beginning of the new month, the start date of the religious holiday will be confirmed.

Next in line after Eid al Fitr comes Arafat Day, the second day of the week-long Hajj pilgrimage, expected to take place on June 27.

Following on from this, comes Eid al Adha – which is expected to be commemorated on June 28, 29 and 30.

If this comes to pass, there will be four consecutive public holidays at the end of June – from Tuesday 27 to Friday 30 – leaving the door open to a six-day break if you factor in the weekend of July 1-2.
