UAE Petrol Prices To Change In September; Reduce Rate Expected

With UAE’s fuel price committee due to meet, the country’s petrol prices will change in September.

Prices tend to fluctuate in line with global trends and, if the current data is anything to go by, we could be in for a reduced rate.

That’s because Brent futures have steadily dropped from around $85 a barrel to $84 by the end of August. Meanwhile, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) prices have dropped from around $82 a barrel to $79.

If the rate is cut for September, it would follow a price rise in August which saw the current costs as follows:

  • Super 98 petrol costs Dhs3.14, up from Dhs3 per litre in July.
  • Special 95 petrol costs Dhs3.02, up from Dhs2.89 per litre in July.
  • E-Plus 91 petrol costs Dhs2.95, up from Dhs2.81 per litre in July.
  • Diesel costs Dhs2.95, up from Dhs2.76 per litre in July.

Fuel prices in the country were liberalised in 2015, with local rates being aligned with global oil prices.

For the past eight years, the fuel price committee has met on a monthly basis to announce revised rates.

The government hopes the measure will encourage more residents to use public transport while also incentivising the use of alternative fuels.
