New Etihad Rail Video Shows Stunning Track Through Hajar Mountains

A new Etihad Rail video has been shared revealing the magnificence of the project.

The footage, shared on Twitter by the Etihad Rail account, shows the construction challenges overcome in order for the train tracks to be completed.

Highlighting the great planning, construction and engineering behind the project, the footage shows the track as it passes through the Hajar Mountains.

The 53-second clip is accompanied by a tweet reading: “#EtihadRail has successfully overcome construction challenges in building the National Railway Network, especially the track that traverses through the Hajar Mountains all the way to the vibrant port of Fujairah.

“This path is characterised by the fact that it passes through one of the most challenging geographical areas due to the mountainous terrain surrounding it, extending over a distance of 145km, which provides a fast, safe and efficient means of transportation from Fujairah to all the other emirates.”

The Hajara Mountains are the highest mountain range in the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula, shared between northern Oman and eastern United Arab Emirates.

The route, which has nine tunnels through the mountains at a cumulative length of 6.9 kilometres with 54 bridges and 20 animal crossings, passes through some of the most complex topographical areas in the network.

The first stage of the railway network was finished in 2016 and construction of the second part started in 2020. Spanning the UAE, the track is now able to transport goods from Al Faya to the rest of the country. Etihad Rail’s 1,200km network extends across the country, from the border of Saudi Arabia to the border of Oman.
