Arab Cinema Week Is Back At Cinema Akil From This Weekend

Indie cinema, Cinema Akil is bringing back Arab Cinema Week.

A 10-day festival dedicated to showcasing regional talent, the event is back for its second year.

Taking place between Friday October 6 and Sunday October 15, tickets for films are Dhs56.50 or you can purchase a season pass (and watch all of the films) for Dhs350.

Once again, the line-up has been curated by Rabih El-Khoury. Speaking on her second edition of the event she said, “This year’s theme of ‘Human Bonds’ has allowed us to craft a program that encapsulates stories from the entire Arab world.”

Arab Cinema Week includes films from Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Sudan, the UAE, Somalia and Palestine.

There will be a rare screening of The Insomnia Of A Serial Dreamer, which is a personal documentary shot over a period of 15 years by director Mohamed Soueid.

Tunisian crime thriller Ashkal which details a murder investigation will be shown.

As will Life Suits Me Well which follows the story of a Moroccan family dealing with a sudden sickness among them.

Short film programme, We Are Family will explore the lives of four protagonists from UAE, Egypt, Somalia, and Lebanon as they try to liberate themselves.

Iraqi filmmaker Ishtar Yasin Gutiérrez’s My Lost Country will also be screened as part of the line-up.
