Mesmerizing Meteor Shower-Watching Event To Occur In The Desert This Month

A supermoon has already taken place this month, and there will be a Micro Moon and Blue Moon also appearing in the night sky in August.

So much to excite stargazers as the Perseids Meteor Shower will illuminate the night sky over the UAE on Saturday August 12.

Fortunately, for people in Dubai, there is the opportunity to get a good look at the celestial event as Sharjah’s Mleiha Archaeological Centre is running a Perseids Meteor shower-watching evening.

Starting at 6pm, it will take place at the Mleiha campsite in the heart of the desert, until 1am. The event will offer activities designed to ensure the best possible viewing experience, with telescopes for guests to use as well as information provided by expert guides.

Ticketholders will be able to take part in a quiz and learn more about the night sky, with a presentation about the meteor shower too.

Ticketholders will be served meals and refreshments such as burgers, samosas, spring rolls, fruit and iced tea (for standard rate) so don’t worry about getting hungry. You will be fed well!

Quinoa with roasted sweet potato salad, chicken katsu and rice and chocolate brownie are available for those paying the premium rate.

Standard tickets start from Dhs200 per person, with premium costing Dhs280. There are also packages available for families.

It will be an impressive sight as the Perseids promise swift and bright meteors leaving breathtaking trails of light across Earth’s atmosphere, delighting spectators with around 50 to 100 meteors per hour.

The Moon will be a waning crescent and 10 percent illuminated during 2023’s peak of the Perseid meteor shower, which will help with seeing the event.

From Dhs200. Sat Aug 12 6pm-1am. Shurooq. discovershurooq.ae.
