Sir Andy Murray Will Be Playing In The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Line-up

Exciting news for tennis fans.

British sporting legend Sir Andy Murray will be playing at this month’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

The Scot has accepted a wildcard from organisers, adding more and more quality field players that already features eight of the world’s best 20 players.

With the women’s event coming before the men’s outing, world number one Iga Swiatek leads a line-up that includes 14 of the best 20 female tennis players on the planet.

Arab superstar and world number two, Ons Jabeur, could be the home favourite, while defending champion Jelena Ostapenko will also feature.

For the men’s tournament, four of the world’s top ten will be playing, including three former champions. The world’s second-best player Rafael Nadal is on the line-up as is Novak Djokovic, injury permitting.

Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of Dubai Duty Free, said: “Each year, we strive to build on past achievements and attract the world’s best to the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

Tournament Director Salah Tahlak added: “The field for this year’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships is a fantastic mix of established stars, previous champions and upcoming talents.

“We are looking forward to the WTA week bringing thrilling tennis from the best in the women’s game, followed of course by the ATP men’s week.”

Other names in the women’s tournament include last year’s Dubai finalist Veronika Kudermetova, 2017 US Open finalist Madison Keys and Dubai-based Spaniard Paula Badosa.

The male players will include reigning Dubai champion Andrey Rublev, Daniil Medvedev who is currently 8th in the world, Olympic Gold medalist Alexander Zverev, Hubert Hurkacz, Marin Cilic, Pablo Carreno Busta, and Karen Kachanov.

The women’s WTA 1000 event will be followed by the 31st staging of the ATP Tour 500 men’s tournament from February 26 to March 4.
