Witness Partial Lunar Eclipse In Dubai This Month

This year, the residents of Dubai have been lucky enough to have observed lots of stargazing events in 2023. And this month, another will take place as there will be a partial lunar eclipse on Saturday October 28.

Skywatchers in Dubai will be able to see part of the Moon entering the Earth’s shadow with the naked eye.

It may look like a “bite” being taken out of the lunar surface as the Earth’s shadow will appear dark on the side of the Moon facing the Earth. How much of a “bite” we see depends on how the Sun, Earth and Moon align, according to NASA.

During a lunar eclipse, the Sun, Earth and Moon align so that the Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the Moon and casts a shadow across the lunar surface.

There are three types of lunar eclipses; full, partial and prenumbral.

A total lunar eclipse is when the Earth’s shadow is cast across the entire lunar surface, while a penumbral lunar eclipse is when the faint outer part of the Earth’s shadow is cast across the lunar surface.

Only part of the Moon will enter the Earth’s shadow on Saturday October 28, making it a partial lunar eclipse.

It will also be a full Moon and a Hunter’s Moon as it is the first full Moon to follow the Harvest Moon that was in the sky on Friday September 29.
