WhatsApp’s Chat Lock Will Be On UAE Phones In Next Two Weeks

Meta announced to the world yesterday that a new privacy feature is planned for WhatsApp.

Maybe you were wondering if the latest update will land in the UAE. Well now, now Time Out Dubai can confirm that the secret messaging feature, named Chat Lock, will be available to WhatsApp users in the region (and when).

A spokesperson for Facebook’s Meta, who owns the IM app, told us: “Facebook’s Meta Chat Lock has started rolling out to users globally.”

Explaining when we can all expect to see the new feature on our phones, they added: “It will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.”

Chat Lock will mean users are able to lock and hide conversations by giving the option to remove a chat thread from the app’s main inbox.

The messages will then be kept in a hidden folder that can be opened by a password or facial recognition/fingerprint.
