We Might Say Goodbye To Passports As New Airport Plans Revealed

Whether you are traveling for fun or are on vacation, it can be stressful.

Packing your bags, checking all the documents, and leaving enough time to make sure you can have a duty-free boarding is a lot!

Well, the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) wants travel to become smooth and seamless and has proposed how this could be done if airports around the world go fully digital.

Not planned to go ahead (yet), the IATA’s newly-released Recommended Practice on Digitalisation of Admissibility lays out the aviation body’s thoughts on how this would work.

It seems like traveling will really become easier and smoother as there would be no need to check in with a boarding pass and show your passport at the gate. As for the steps that travellers will be able to make, it doesn’t sound taxing.

The IATA believes that jetsetters would have to follow a few steps and these would include; creating a verified digital identity using their airline app on their smartphone, sending proof of all required documentation to destination authorities before travel.

Once done, travellers will then be able to receive approval via the digital passport app followed by confirmation that they can go to the airport without needing a passport.

Reports claim that Dubai is in the fast lane when it comes to travelling without a passport or ID card with just biometrics needed when passing through the airport where applicable.
