UAE Will Introduce A New Banknote Next Week

We all know that cash isn’t the top priority in the UAE anymore.

Sure, it is the era of Apple Pay and credit cards, but it doesn’t mean that it’s not important. Having said that, the Central Bank of the UAE has unveiled a new Dhs1,000 polymer banknote, which will be circulating from April 10.

Available from banks and exchange houses, the design of the new note celebrates the UAE’s achievements by featuring various cultural and developmental symbols.

The note’s aesthetic draws on different shades of brown, maintaining the colour characteristics of the existing Dhs1,000 note, alongside fluorescent blue marks of the UAE nation brand and intaglio-printed drawings and inscriptions.

The front of the note bears the image of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, alongside a space shuttle inspired by his meeting with NASA pioneers in 1974.

It also commemorates the 2021 Emirates Mars Mission “Hope Probe” journey, with an image of the mission’s emblem atop the space shuttle and an astronaut security mark reflecting the UAE’s first Emirati astronaut in space.

On the reverse, the note depicts Abu Dhabi’s Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, a key player in the country’s energy diversification and carbon emissions reduction efforts.
