UAE Unemployment Protection Scheme Updated As More Told To Register

Employees working in freezones and semi-government entities have been called to register for the UAE unemployment protection scheme.

A notice on the official website for Involuntary Loss of Employment (ILOE) states: “Do you work in semi-government entities or companies registered in a UAE Freezone? You can subscribe now.”

It’s a significant update because, when the scheme came into effect on January 1, semi-government and freezone employees were exempt. However, the scheme that’s compulsory for all other employees in the nation, also applies to these workers.

The UAE unemployment protection scheme is intended to give workers more security – meaning you can relax that little bit more about any of that pesky job anxiety.

The plan could see you provided with cash compensation if you lose your job for reasons beyond your control.

The government compensation proposals are limited to a three-month period, which gives a generous length of time for you to find a new employer if the worst should happen.

The safety net is intended to support employees across the country while providing mechanisms that don’t incur additional costs for employers.

It was launched by The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), in agreement with nine local insurance companies. The scheme is mandatory for both private and public sector workers and the deadline to sign up is June 30.
