UAE: New Year Brings New Opportunities For The Workers

Undoubtedly, we all are super excited for the new year.

And like every new year, we hope 2023 to be the year full of happiness and opportunities for everyone.

If starting your own business is a dream, it really could be the year for you – particularly if you’re an Emirati working in the public sector.

That’s because a scheme launched by the UAE government comes into play from January 2.

As per the proposal, UAE citizens working in the public sector are entitled to claim year-long sabbatical leave if they wish to start their own business venture.

The purpose is to help UAE residents pursue their entrepreneurial goals while retaining government jobs.

During the sabbatical, Emiratis will continue to earn half their salary.

The leave will have to be approved by the head of the federal authority the employee works for.

It was first announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai in July.

HH Sheikh Mohammed said: “Our goal is to encourage the youth to take advantage of the huge commercial opportunities offered by our national economy.”
