UAE: Four More Places To Be Added To UNESCO World Heritage List

There is no doubt that the United Arab Emirates is one of the best places to live in the world.

From Dubai’s Burj Khalifa to Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, there are several beautiful places in the country. The world is waking up to how fantastic this country is – and there are plans to attract 40 million new tourists to Dubai alone, by 2031.

Apart from the UAE’s world-classic facilities and amazing weather, there is much more to the country, not least because four ancient sites in Sharjah have been added to the preliminary UNESCO World Heritage List.

The site of Mleiha, the stone inscriptions in Khatum Melaha and Khor Fakkan, the site of Wadi Helo and the site of Faya are all included.

The Faya Mountains are a beautiful illustration of the Arabian Peninsula’s desert environment. Human habitation in the area dates back a whopping 210,000 years.

The settlement of Mleiha dates back to pre-Islamic times, with historical findings showing off its importance to the region’s ancient camel trade.

The stone inscriptions at Khatum Melaha in Kalba, Mudifi, Luluyah, and Wadi Shie in Khor Fakkan, date back to the fifth millennium BC.

While Wadi Helo contains the first known signs of mining in southern Arabia – with the site offering copper purity that approaches 100 percent.

It is hoped that inclusion on the World Heritage final list could encourage more visitors to the UAE – and stress the historical significance of the country.
