UAE Confirms Three-Day Weekend For September

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced that September 29 will be a paid public holiday for private sector employees.

This will be to mark the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday – and the news came in a circular issued by MoHRE, which aligns with the UAE Cabinet Resolution regarding the approved public holidays for the public and private sectors in 2023.

It follows a whole host of public holidays this year.

The first public holiday of 2023 was on New Year’s Day, which fell on a Sunday.

Eid al Fitr came next – and the UAE marked the occasion with two public holidays that stretched into a four-day weekend from April 20-23.

Next in line came Arafat Day, the second day of the week-long Hajj pilgrimage, which took place on Tuesday June 27.

Arafat Day was directly followed by Eid al Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice.

One of the most important holidays in the Islamic calendar, it was celebrated on June 28, 29 and 30.

After that, Wednesday July 19 saw a public holiday to mark Islamic New Year, falling on the first day of the month Muharram – the first of the Islamic lunar calendar. This was commemorated on Friday July 21.

But next up for 2023 is the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday, which falls on Wednesday September 27. The public holiday will fall on Friday September 29.

And finally, 2023’s public holidays will come to their conclusion in December.

Commemoration Day falls on Friday December 1, followed by National Day on Saturday December 2 and a further holiday for National Day on Sunday December 3.
