Speed Limit To Be Reduced On Key Dubai Road

Attention drivers, the speed limit on one of the Dubai’s busiest roads is to be reduced.

Those who use the Al Ittihad Road, between Sharjah and Al Garhoud Bridge, need to be aware that the speed they can drive along the route is to be reduced.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has announced that the speed limit will be reduced to 80km/h from 100km/h and will come into effect on Monday November 20.

Road traffic signs will be updated to reflect the new maximum speed of 80 km/h and red lines will mark the beginning of the speed reduction zone.

This decision, by RTA and Dubai Police General HQ, is based on a recent study that reviewed the number of entrances/exits, proximity of intersections, recurrence of traffic accidents, and recent improvements and developments in the area. It’s expected to slow things down sure, but smooth the ride, ultimately benefiting all drivers.

Dubai is doing plenty of work on its road network to ensure smooth traffic for its residents, visitors and citizens.

Last week, it announced another major roadworks plan, the Garn Al Sabkha Street project, had hit a milestone; the intersection linking to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road is 50 percent complete.

Once the project is complete, it will reduce travel time from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road towards Al Qusais and Sharjah by 40 percent.

The bridge that will serve traffic from Garn Al Sabkha in the west towards Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in the north towards Al Qusais and Sharjah, will be 601 metres in length and be able to handle 3,200 vehicles per hour.
