No Longer Able To Share Netflix Password With Other Households In The UAE

Streaming giant, Netflix, announced today that UAE residents will no longer be able to share their passwords outside of their households.

An online statement reads: “A Netflix account is meant to be shared by people who live together in one household. People who are not in your household will need to sign up for their own account to watch Netflix.”

In a move that’s bound to cut many people’ binge-watching time in half, registered Netflix users will now only be able to share their password with people residing in the same house as them.

That means no more love for your neighbours and friends…

the company can track WiFi networks and IP addresses of devices. The streaming giant can then block a password from being used outside of a specific household.

“A Netflix Household is a collection of the devices connected to the internet at the main place you watch Netflix,” explains the company on its website. “A Netflix Household can be set using a TV device. All other devices that use your Netflix account on the same internet connection as this TV will automatically be part of your Netflix Household.”

This is, of course, not the first time Netflix has cracked down on password-sharing. It has been limited in more than 100 countries globally, including the USA, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil. The move has seen Netflix subscriber numbers rise to over six million.

Currently, there is no information on whether or not UAE residents will be able to buy an extra membership to add someone outside of their household to their account, as is possible in the UK and USA, but you can choose to create a new account for someone outside of your home and pay for it.
