More Eco-friendly Cars To Join Dubai Taxi Fleet Soon

We all know Dubai’s long-term goal…to have emission-free public transport by the year 2050. With 70 percent of the city’s taxi fleet already eco-friendly, the RTA revealed that in just five years, 100 percent of the vehicles will be eco-friendly by 2027.

The move to greener travel is continuing this week, with Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) set to begin trials with electric Skywell cars.

The plan is to test various models of electric cars to find the most effective ones. The Skywell electric vehicle will be trailed for the limo service for three months. During this time the electric car will be tested on Dubai roads for comfort, safety and security.

“Dubai Taxi Corporation strives to add 70 eco-friendly vehicles to its fleet each year, in a bid to migrate to emission-free public transport means in Dubai,” says Mansoor Rahma Al Falasi, CEO of Dubai Taxi Corporation.

Saying more, “To accomplish this goal, DTC is introducing various brands of vehicles from different companies to attain optimal results.”

In the move towards a fully electric fleet, there will be several sharing stations set up throughout the city that each caters to a variety of electric vehicles.

There are other taxi changes coming into effect soon too. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a plan to put e-hailing taxi services front and centre in the city.

The authority is planning to create designated zones for e-hail services and parking spaces for both street-hail taxis and e-hail vehicles.
