Ever Had An eDirham Card? Here Is How To Claim A Cash Refund

Remember those eDirham cards? Well, if you do, you’ll know that the service offered a cashless payment platform for paying bills and government services.

The cards were commonplace in the early 2000s – but the service was deactivated in 2022 and replaced with the systems we use today, with direct payments the preferred option.

But if you still have outstanding balance on your eDirham card or cards, we have some good news.

That’s because the UAE’s Ministry of Finance (MoF) will now be offering a fully automated service on its website that will allow you to obtain a refund on any remaining balance on your eDirham card.

If applicable, here is the procedure:

  • Log into the MoF website using UAEPASS.
  • Submit a refund request with the required supporting documents.
  • Once processed, the balance in the eDirham card will be transferred to a new card that is issued by First Abu Dhabi Bank.

The eDirham system was first set up in 2001 and, at the time, strengthened the UAE’s position as a world leader in financial technology solutions. It was replaced when services like Apple Pay, Google Pay and many more alternatives became available.

For more information, you can reach out to the MoF’s call centre on 800 533336. Alternatively, you can try the First Abu Dhabi Bank customer service line on 600 52 5500.
