Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently closed Dubai’s Floating Bridge. The bridge, which was built between the Al Garhoud and Al Maktoum Bridges to reduce traffic on the Al Maktoum Bridge, has been shut in both directions since Monday April 17.

The Floating Bridge will undergo major maintenance work during its closure and RTA plan to reopen it in three weeks. RTA are yet to confirm the official opening date but, if the works are completed in time, then expect to be able to use the bridge on Monday May 22.

When it was shared that the Floating Bridge would be out of use for five weeks, the RTA laid out plans to reroute traffic in an attempt to keep cars flowing.

Those who travel from Sharjah through Al Ittihad Street are advised to use Al Mamzar Exit which will be open for traffic (previously restricted to Buses and Taxis) to ease access to the Infinity Bridge via Cairo and Al Khaleej Streets.

It is best to use the Infinity Bridge when coming from Deira to Bur Dubai through Al Khaleej Street. Traffic from Sharjah to Bur Dubai through Al Ittihad Road is to use the Infinity Bridge via Cairo and Al Khaleej Streets, as well as Al Garhoud Bridge or Al Maktoum Bridge.

Drivers from Bur Dubai to Deira through Khalid bin Al Waleed Street are to make the most of Al Maktoum Bridge and the Infinity Bridge.

Traffic from Bur Dubai to Deira through Umm Hurair Road are to use Al Maktoum Bridge and those taking a route from Bur Dubai to Deira through Sheikh Zayed Road are advised to use Al Garhoud Bridge, Al Maktoum Bridge, Infinity Bridge and the Business Bay Crossing.

Al Maktoum Bridge and Al Garhoud Bridge is also to be the route of choice for traffic from Bur Dubai to Deira through Oud Metha Road. Traffic from Bur Dubai to Deira through Al Riyadh Street are also told to use Al Maktoum Bridge and motorists travelling between Bur Dubai and Deira may use main roads such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road.
