Dubai’s Al Maktoum Bridge Will Be Closed During Ramadan

Al Maktoum Bridge is to be partially closed throughout Ramadan. The bridge, that crosses Dubai Creek, will not be accessible six days a week between 1am and 6am.

Drivers will not be able to use the bridge from Monday to Saturdays during the early hours, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has announced.

If you need to get over the waterway during the closure period then make sure to use alternative bridges; Al Garhoud Bridge, Business Bay Bridge, Al Shindagha Tunnel or The Infinity Bridge.

Al Maktoum Bridge was Dubai’s first bridge, which was opened in 1963.

The overwater crossing was first introduced to help the people of Dubai cross from Bur Dubai to Deira.

Before it opened, the only way to make the journey was by abra or by driving all around Dubai Creek.

When the bridge is open, drivers have to pay a toll (Salik).

However, on weekday evenings and all day on Sundays, cars passing under the toll gate at Al Maktoum Bridge, located on Umm Hurair Road, are exempt from Salik tolls.

The exemption applies when the Floating Bridge is closed and is in effect from 10pm to 6am, Monday to Friday and from Saturday at 10pm until Monday at 6am.

There are currently eight Salik toll gates in Dubai. Each time a vehicle passes through a toll point it costs Dhs4.
