Dubai Police Introduces New Virtual Officer

Dubai Police is on a mission to change the face of policing, one gadget at a time. Following news that the force has an all-new luxury floating car for marine emergencies in its fleet, it has also been revealed that Dubai Police is adding a virtual officer to their ranks.

Unveiled at GITEX Global Technology Exhibition 2023 held at the Dubai World Trade Center, the new virtual officer, Amna, can assist with Arabic and English inquiries.

Using artificial intelligence, Amna is available on the Dubai Police Website and helps with services such as paying traffic fines and reporting incidents.

Amna operates on executing user transactions via voice commands using artificial intelligence technologies.

Khadija Flamurzi, from the General Department of Artificial Intelligence, said: “This feature was realised through the collaborative efforts of the General Department of Artificial Intelligence and other departments aiming to transition all their public services to voice-command interfaces.”

It’s not the first non-human cop to be part of the force, as 2017 saw Dubai Police launch its very own autonomous robocop at the Fourth Gulf Information Security Expo.

Then in 2021, Dubai residents were able to get up close and personal with robocop as he patrolled the streets, Most recently, he has been spotted in malls

Other impressive equipment used by the police in Dubai include a futuristic hoverbike that can fly at five metres high at speeds of up to 96kmph.

The Hoverbike S3, announced in 2018, uses four spinning blades to levitate off the ground and costs approximately Dhs550,000.

It’s not just cops with all the cool gadgets, either. Back in 2017, firefighters in Dubai were kitted out with jet packs to help them in their flame-fighting escapades. A video of one fireman modelling the new armour saw him whizzing on a jet ski before strapping his feet into a jetpack which used water pressure to elevate him above the blaze.
