One of Dubai’s oldest landmarks, Deira Clocktower, is undergoing renovation. The landmark, originally called Dubai Clock Tower, built in 1965, is set to get a modern look under the instruction of Dubai Municipality.

Found at the intersection of Umm Hurair Road and Al Maktoum Road, the structure is being given a makeover, and so is the roundabout it stands on.

In order for the appearance to be improved, multicoloured lighting and greenery will feature alongside the upgrading of the design of the water fountain.

Dubai Municipality hopes the roundabout will look futuristic while also preserving the original structure of the clock tower, Gulf News report.

The tower stands at 20 metres high and before renovation began had a spider-like appearance with four legs. With four dials that point in various directions and a fountain, it’s not your regular timepiece.

Deira Clocktower was Dubai’s original landmark until the likes of Burj al Arab and Burj Khalifa came along.

The Deira Clocktower roundabout is a significant historical and architectural landmark and is one of the most stunning clock towers across the globe.

The clocktower, which was built in 1963, holds a significant position in history as it was the first land passage between Deira and Bur Dubai, and is located at the intersection of Umm Hurair Street and Al Maktoum Street, one of the most important crossroads in the Emirate of Dubai.
