Can I Renew Emirates ID While Outside Of The UAE?

A lot of UAE residents go on holiday to avoid scorching heat and enjoy cooler climes, with many expats returning to their home countries for weeks at a time.

And if you have an Emirates ID that is coming up for renewal you may be scratching your head wondering if it’s possible to renew your EID without being in the UAE.

Well, it has now become possible!

Previously, the only way to apply for a new Emirates ID was in person at an accredited typing centre, but now those who already have a visa and need a new EID card can apply via the ICP app from anywhere in the world.

Once you access the smart application through your mobile phone, select the service for renewing ID cards from abroad, submit the application, pay the fees and complete the transaction.

Please keep in mind that if your biometric details (fingerprints) are not up to date required to visit one of ICP’s service centres to provide them (which are only in the UAE).

Remember that UAE nationals can apply for renewal of their Emirates ID between six and one month before the expiry date, while UAE residence visa holders can only apply for renewal when their residence visa is renewed or reissued.

If you are doing this process, it’s useful to know that you can access a digital version of your Emirates ID.

This can be accessed via the UAE Pass App and you’ll need your Emirates ID number to verify your identity via facial recognition.

Head to the UAEICP app and once logged in tap on ‘Emirates ID’ on the home page to download a PDF of your Emirates ID. You can then select your name and download the digital version of your EID.
