A Supermoon Will Be Visible In Dubai Tonight

All set to see a moon that appears larger and brighter than other full moons on the evening of Tuesday August 1? Well, we just hope for clear skies tonight!

Supermoons happen when a Full Moon coincides with the Moon’s closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit, a point known as perigee.

It will be the first Full Moon of the month and, luckily for stargazers, there will be two this month. When two Full Moons occur in one month, the second is called a Blue Moon.

Get ready to see the special Moon on Thursday August 31 which will also be a Supermoon.

Those savvy with moongazing will know that in May, Dubai was lucky enough to have a Da Vinci Glow Moon in the sky.

The Da Vinci Glow is named after Renaissance man Leonardo da Vinci, who discovered Earthshine.

Earthshine is visible when a Crescent Moon is on the horizon at sunset. A ghostly image of a Full Moon can be seen between the horns on the crescent.

Painter, draughtsman, engineer, scientist, theorist, sculptor, and architect Da Vinci discovered the phenomenon in the 16th century.
