Etihad Rail Video Shows UAE’s Huge 10 Million Capacity Rail Bridge
A brand new day with a brand new Etihad Rail video, letting us know its latest update. Shared on the railway’s Twitter page, the video focuses on the Abu Dhabi section of the route.
The caption reads: “The #EtihadRail route in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is distinguished for its connection to the main ports and key industrial centres in the country, such as Khalifa Port, Khalifa Industrial Zone (Kizad), and Abu Dhabi Industrial City (ICAD), all the way to Al Dhafra Region.”

The video showcases the UAE’s first marine railway bridge which is 1km long and boasts a capacity of 10 million containers each year. With the freight trains now in action, Etihad Rail added (about the Abu Dhabi network): “This aims to significantly enhance the competitiveness of the shipping and logistics sector, bolstering business prospects in the UAE. Our freight trains now transport all types of goods across the country seamlessly and efficiently.”
For those wanting to book freight services, you can now do so on the Etihad Rail website. Reducing time and costs, it’s possible to use the Etihad Rail to move goods around the Emirates, to the border of Saudi Arabia and to the border of Oman.
When the passenger train service is complete, it will connect 11 cities and regions across the UAE. It will stretch from Al Sila to Fujairah including Al Ruwais, Al Mirfa, Dubai, Sharjah, Al Dhaid and Abu Dhabi. The hope is that this will reduce the number of people who commute by car between the Emirates by 30 to 40 percent.
The railway network will also connect Sohar in Oman to Abu Dhabi in the UAE, via Sohar Port to the UAE National Rail Network. Trains are estimated to take 1 hour and 40 minutes to move between Abu Dhabi and Sohar, and just 47 minutes to travel from Al Ain to Sohar.
